About Us

Westport Country Playhouse is a historic, non-profit, professional theater under the artistic direction of Mark Shanahan and management leadership of Beth Huisking. The Playhouse produces theatre from playwrights, actors, directors, and designers of all backgrounds, in addition to presented events for audiences of all ages, while entertaining audiences and exploring human and societal issues along the way. Its vital mix of works—a collection of stories meant to uplift, inspire, and challenge—expands the audience’s sense of how powerful it is to come together for a night of theatre. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. The Playhouse also hosts various educational programs for students in its commitment to making theatre accessible to all. The Westport Country Playhouse is a year-round theatre with an expanded calendar including Mainstage Productions, Family Festivities, Script in Hand play readings, special events, film screenings, author talks, and entertainers. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers.
